Capacity evaluations are used to determine if an older adult is experiencing a mental health and/or neurocognitive disorder that is affecting their functional/decisional abilities. This type of evaluation typically includes: 
  • An interview with the older adult and key informants
  • Cognitive and psychological testing to establish and stage a diagnosis if applicable
  • A decisional ability assessment (e.g. financial decision making for cases of wills, contracts)
  • Identification of needed adaptations and environmental support
  • Integration of findings with relevant legal standards
