A TYPICAL NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION
Depending on the scope and intent, an evaluation typically consists of an interview, 2-6 hours of testing, and feedback to the referral source (patient and/or referring provider). Evaluations usually are conducted during one appointment with breaks designed into the day. However, some evaluations may span over a couple of days.

Record ReviewPrior to meeting, an in depth record review will be done to determine what type of measures will be used for the evaluation. This usually involves review of medical (and/or academic) records with special focus on neurological, psychiatric/psychological, and neuroimaging (MRI, CT, etc.) data. Test selection is individually tailored to address the referral question.

The Clinical Interview | 45 - 90 minutesDuring the interview, relevant historical information will be gathered, and with the patient's permission, family members or other knowledgeable persons may be interviewed to share their perspective on the patient's history and symptoms.
|

Neuropsychological Testing | 2 - 6 hoursThe testing portion typically involves paper-to-pencil and/or computer tasks that evaluate a range of cognitive functioning. Areas usually assessed include attention/concentration, memory, language, planning/reasoning/problem solving, visuospatial ability, academic skills, and sensory-motor abilities. Psychological functioning (including mood, behavior, and personality) can also be assessed using questionnaires.

Data Analysis and IntegrationAfter the evaluation, we analyze all data gathered from previous records, the clinical interview, behavioral observations, objective test scores, and possible information from your informant. We will integrate this information into a comprehensive report. Depending on the referral question, the report will describe strengths and weaknesses and the patterns in scores will support (or refute) possible diagnoses. Recommendations for additional evaluations and/or treatment will be made.

Feedback Session | 45 minutes - 1 hourDuring the feedback appointment, we will discuss findings together and encourage family members or support persons to join this meeting. With permission, the report can be shared with other providers or professionals individuals.
