Cognitive decline can be part of a normal aging process. A neuropsychological evaluation will compare scores to other individuals with similar demographics to determine whether experienced cognitive changes are within expectation for age or an indication of a neurodegenerative process (or other condition). |
Changes in thinking, mood, and/or behaviors may be an indication of a neurodegenerative process. A neuropsychological evaluation can help determine the underlying reasoning for these changes (Alzheimer's, vascular disease, Lewy bodies, Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, etc.). |
Concussions/TBIs can result in changes in cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and physical functioning. A neuropsychological evaluation will help characterize cognitive strengths and weaknesses, aid in treatment, career/education planning, and provide information about independent functioning. |
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopment disorder and one of many reasons for inattention in adulthood. Given high rates of misdiagnosis, a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation is critical in establishing an accurate diagnosis and to inform treatment. |
We are psychologists first and psychiatric evaluations are built into every comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation. Psychiatric and cognitive functioning are closely intertwined and a clear understanding of both is critical in establishing a targeted treatment plan. |
Various medical conditions are known to impact cognitive functioning. Common conditions include chronic pain, sleep disorders, cancers, autoimmune disorders, and substance use disorders. A neuropsychological evaluation can help determine the underlying cause of experienced cognitive difficulties. |
